DISCOVER THE JOY OF GROUP EXERCISE IN OULU

TRACKSUIT DANCING BY JIMI

Dancing (waltz, tango, foxtrot etc) makes for brilliant exercise, but too often it is hampered by constricting evening wear and uncomfortable shoes. Let the music move your body at Jimi Parkkinen’s tracksuit dance while wearing casual exercise clothes. Each tracksuit dancing session lasts for an hour and it includes both dancing and muscle-strengthening exercises, increasing dancing muscle strength and minimizing the risk of training-related injury. Fitness dancing makes for a well-rounded exercise, because it combines anaerobic and aerobic activities. Each session ends with stretching. You can bring a friend or come by yourself and dance alone or in pairs. Tracksuit dancing can be great fun even without a partner when led by a capable instructor, and it also makes it easier to dance when paired up. Dancing is a good way to both exercise and meet new people. A tracksuit dancing session is an effective one-hour workout – you will be sweaty and tired but happy by the end of the session. The music is diverse and will lift your spirits!

FITWALK BY JIMI

Walking is the most popular form of exercise in Finland. The basic idea behind fitwalking is simple: keep a brisk pace while the instructor makes sure that you maintain a correct, rolling walking technique. Walking variations combined with different kinds of arm movements make the sport efficient and fun. Different aids can be included as well as speed and coordination exercises, such as sprints and rhythm and pace variations. Warmups at the beginning and stretching at the end seal the hour-long deal. Fitwalking is not a competition; it is a diverse, positive group exercise led by an instructor who guides you along inspiring scenic routes!

RAKSILA SWIMMING POOL (PIKKUKANKAANTIE 3).

BIKE TREK

The session begins and ends at Raksila swimming Pool (Pikkukankaantie 3). In addition to bicycle and forest roads, the route follows smaller footpaths. You won’t need a special bike, however – a regular one will do just fine. The session includes muscle-strengthening exercise and stretching at the end. Bring your own bike and come early. Bike trek takes place on Wednesdays, starting at 8:45 p.m. and ending an hour later. Immerse your body and mind in exercise that alternates between aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities!  Welcome!

FITJOG BY JIMI

Fitjog is practically a round-the-year activity and it will introduce you to the correct running technique. Your fellow runners will support and motivate you. In addition to jogging and other techniques, you will learn about sprinting. The sessions will occasionally be enlivened by muscle-strengthening exercises as well as speed and coordination exercises, such as sprinting. Warmups at the beginning and stretching at the end seal the hour-long deal. Fitjogging is a guided group exercise and perfect for you if you like jogging but would also like to try out something new.

DON’T FORGET…

The swimming hall lockers are available for use during tracksuit dancing sessions. They require a one-euro coin that will be returned to you when you leave. PS. PALMBALL BY JIMI – a Finnish racket sport where your hands are the racket!

Palmball is a sport that requires skill and where only the sky is the limit as far as speed is concerned. It is also a beginner-friendly sport: even a first-timer can have fun playing against an opponent of equal skill. A game of palmball has either two or four players, and the game can take place indoors or outdoors, on a badminton or a tennis court. Palmball makes for superb exercise It improves the player’s speed, agility and dexterity while strengthening leg and core muscles. It tones your body by burning a lot of calories, and quick changes of direction typical for the game increase bone strength. Palmball requires endurance and as such is good exercise for your heart. Your overall health and wellbeing will

improve and so will your enthusiasm for the sport. Be active, positive and bold when you play, be it for points or just for fun! Remember to begin each palmball session with warmups and end by stretching! If you wish to practice the sport in Oulu but don’t have equipment, palmballs are included in the court fee at Raatti Swimming Pool, Oulu Hall and Nallisport.
